Vision and Eye Health Evaluations

Truly Seen, Truly Cared For at Peterborough Optometric.

The Importance of Regular Vision & Eye Health Evaluations

Routine eye examinations are crucial for preserving optimal eye health, clear vision, and overall quality of life.

Our Vision & Eye Health Evaluation is a comprehensive appointment that goes beyond checking your visual acuity and need for corrective eyewear. It includes an eye health assessment focusing on early detection, prevention, and management of various eye conditions and diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, cataracts and dry eye. This thorough approach is our commitment to your eye health and well-being.

What to Expect During Your Vision & Eye Health Evaluation

At Peterborough Optometric, we do things
a little differently!

First, you don't fill out forms here. Our dedicated team of Certified Optometric Assistants will personally engage with you, asking and recording information about your health history, lifestyle, eye care routine, and specific eye care needs. Not asking you to fill out paperwork is just one way of showing how much we value you as a patient.

Next, we will guide you through several tests to evaluate your vision and assess
your eye health. We pride ourselves on using the latest technology to provide the most advanced and thorough care. We are often one of the first clinics in Canada to offer leading-edge diagnostic technology, allowing you to feel confident in the quality of care you receive. Throughout this process, we
will always ensure that you understand what we are doing and why.

The most significant difference here is our incredible staff.

A personal assistant (scribe) supports your doctor, taking all of the doctor's notes so the doctor can focus on you—no other local clinic provides this service!

At Peterborough Optometric, we want to ensure that upon completing your
Vision & Eye Health Evaluation, you feel truly seen and cared for and better understand your vision and eye health.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us or request an appointment.

Our Technology

Optos® (California) Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging

Ultra-widefield retinal imaging (or Optomap® retinal imaging) uses noninvasive, low-intensity scanning lasers that can image more than 80% or 200˚ of the retina in a single capture. The image capture takes less than a
half-second, and the images are available immediately so you can see your retina.

Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body
where blood vessels can be seen directly. Optomap enables us to discover and diagnose eye diseases and early signs of other diseases (such as stroke, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes) that may go undetected using traditional examination techniques and equipment. Early detection means successful treatments can be administered and reduce the risk to your sight and health.

Optomap imaging is safe, fast, and comfortable for all ages, including children. Unlike traditional retinal exams, the Optomap image can be saved in your patient record to compare changes in eye health over time.

No other Optometry clinic in Peterborough offers optomap technology.

Topcon (Maestro 2) Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

OCT is a noninvasive imaging test that uses light waves to take three-dimensional cross-section pictures of the retina. The OCT maps and measures each layer's thickness, which allows for more precise diagnosis and treatment recommendations for retinal diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and the effects of diabetes. Furthermore, OCT scans can help diagnose glaucoma and other retinal diseases before vision loss occurs.
